Arts charity, Continuo Foundation has announced the recipients of its third round of grants. A total of £100,000 will be awarded to 25 period performance projects throughout the UK following a total of 66 applications having been submitted in February of this year.

The foundation’s community of grantee ensembles has now grown to 51 different UK ensembles which have received support since the first grants were awarded in March 2021. Funding has also been granted to five ensembles in the foundation’s new ‘Recently Formed Ensembles’ category.

Foundation trustee Hannah French said: ‘About 20% of the funds available went to this new category, and our grants will help five groups to take projects forward and gain visibility with audiences and promoters.’

The funded projects will take place this year from April to October. A full list of the ensembles and projects supported in this round of grants can be found here. Projects will include the Spinacino Consort’s exploration of the music of the Scottish Reformation through the poetry of Scotland’s first published female poet, Baroque in the North's chamber concert series across rural Derbyshire and the Prince Regent's Band's series of concerts in historic buildings designed to showcase 19th century brass repertoire.

Since its inception in 2020, Continuo Foundation has awarded more than £350,000 in grants for period-instrument ensembles. The foundation also uses its website and social media to help ensembles market their events to a wider audience with the aim of improving the financial sustainability of ensembles and musicians.

Dame Emma Kirkby, patron of the Foundation, commented: ‘It is a joy to see renewed confidence in the UK period performance community as Continuo helps ensembles to get back on track and musicians rebuild their careers.’
