Newcastle venue the Sage Gateshead, has this week announced its new name following a rebrand. Now called The Glasshouse International Centre for Music, the venue, which is also home to the Royal Northern Sinfonia, is set to celebrate its rebrand this weekend with an Open House event running from 16 to 17 September.

This week’s celebration follows a rebrand campaign launched in June last year triggered by the construction of an arena and conference centre next door to the venue which would also be called The Sage. The Glasshouse’s new identity was created with Manchester-based design team Music based on memories shared by people from across the North East and is inspired by the idea that ‘music lives and grows here’.

Managing director Abigail Pogson said: ‘Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences of live music with us to help shape this new identity. Today marks a new era, building on all that has happened over the charity’s near 20 years so far. We’re looking forward to continuing to see people across the North East enjoy and make great music, working both with musicians from across the globe and from our most musical region.’

As well as reflecting the community surrounding The Glasshouse, the new name and logo (pictured above) also reflects the building itself, which stands 40 metres tall and is constructed from 630 panes of glass. As part of The Glasshouse’s new direction, the venue is also launching a new Music Pass. For every baby born in the North East and Cumbria this year the charity which runs The Glasshouse will give families a voucher to be spent on their concerts, gigs, or classes.
