Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra has announced that Domingo Hindoyan has extended his contract as chief conductor until July 2028. Having taken up his role with the Liverpool Philharmonic in September 2021, Hindoyan’s tenure is extended for a further three years.

Throughout his additional time with the orchestra, the Venezuelan conductor will expand the orchestra’s singing and choral activity across Liverpool, as well as continuing his focus on Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company and its In Harmony programme. Hindoyan will open the orchestra’s 2023-24 season with a programme of Bernstein, Copland, Gershwin and Rachmaninov on 21 September at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

Liverpool Philharmonic chief executive Michael Eakin said: ‘Domingo Hindoyan's artistic leadership has been instrumental in enhancing the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra's worldwide reputation. We are thrilled to extend his contract, as it ensures the continued growth and development of our Orchestra. Domingo's immense talent and unwavering dedication make him an invaluable asset to our organisation.’

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Hindoyan began his music studies as a violinist and member of Venezuelan music education program El Sistema. He then studied conducting in Europe at the Haute École de Musique de Genève. Hindoyan balances his role with the Liverpool-based orchestra, with his responsibilities as principal guest conductor of the Polish National Symphony Orchestra – a position he has held since 2019.

Talking about his contract extension, Hindoyan said: ‘I am so looking forward to continuing my journey with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The deep musicality and dedication of the musicians inspire me every day, and together, we have achieved remarkable milestones. In the next five years, I hope to continue building on our unique sound, encourage new, eclectic and diverse repertoire, and to enjoy the warmth, enthusiasm and open-mindedness of the Liverpool audience – something that always brings me immense joy.’
