The Royal Academy of Music has appointed Fraser Gordon as its new head of woodwind

He takes over on 1 February from Keith Bragg, who retires after nearly 20 years.
Gordon is the principal contrabassoon of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) and a regular guest player (on the bassoon and contra) with all the London orchestras and many other UK and international ensembles.
A few years ago, Classical Music magazine's Andrew Green interviewed Gordon about an education project he undertook with the RPO and a school for visually impaired children. Gordon said .'It was such a revelation to get inside the world as they experience it. They couldn’t see my instrument, but they felt the vibrations as I played. Seeing faces light up was magical. Musicians are quite a self-deprecating lot so it’s great to be boosted by seeing the difference you make.’
