Baumann has served as a member of the AAM's board since 2018.

He is a former chief financial officer of NHS England and current receiver general and chapter clerk of Westminster Abbey.

Baumann replaces Philip Jones, who served for four years as chair of AAM's board.

Baumann said: 'As we approach our 50th anniversary in 2023, this is a very exciting time to be taking over as chair of AAM's board of trustees.

'Our musicians are in award-winning form, and under the leadership of Laurence Cummings and John McMunn, our new music director and chief executive, we have renewed energy and a fresh vision for taking forward the commitment to excellence and innovation which has always characterised AAM's work.'
