Scottish orchestral group Nevis Ensemble has launched a partnership with Glasgow-based arts centre Platform. As Platform’s first orchestra in residence, Nevis Ensemble will relocate its office base, rehearsals, and training activity to the centre and surrounding area.

Platform’s artistic director, Matt Addicott said: ‘[the Nevis Ensemble] have already brought a great deal of joy having played pop-up gigs in the cafe, at local care homes and even from the top of a vintage bus as part of a recent festival day. It feels like a treat to be working with them and we're very excited about the adventures we'll have together!’

Nevis Ensemble will also create a base at Lochend Community High School, where rehearsals, projects and performances will take place. The orchestra will also break up into smaller chamber groups which will up residency in the area’s primary schools.

This news follows the appointment of the orchestra’s first assistant artistic director, Derrick Morgan, who will join co-artistic directors Holly Mathieson and Jon Hargreaves in supporting the ensemble, as well as the launch of the group’s new Fellowship programme, which will see Nevis welcome 23 musicians to Easterhouse for development and training opportunities.

Jamie Munn, the ensemble’s chief executive, said: ‘Platform is such a wonderful resource for the east end of Glasgow and we couldn’t be more delighted to be Orchestra in Residence and becoming part of the Easterhouse community. Our new Fellowships will allow us to reach more people all over Scotland, whilst providing a unique and intensive development programme for musicians, and we can’t wait to get back out on the road seeing audiences old and new.'

Platform offers a year-round programme of performance and participation and works to engage with its surrounding communities. Founded in 2018, Nevis Ensemble aims to bring classical music to as many people as possible through concerts in imaginative locations including supermarkets and mountain summits while collaborating with organisations supporting those in need.
