Marquee TV presents LPO digital residency and partnership with Amazon Prime

As well as celebrating the second year of its digital residency with LPO, the streaming service has forged a new partnership with retail giant Amazon.

Marquee TV has announced its US launch on Amazon’s Prime Video Channels, as well as the second year of its digital residency with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Alongside the two-year LPO digital residency launched in 2021, the streaming service for dance, theatre, opera and classical music will become the first Prime Video Channel dedicated to multi-genre performing arts.

Co-founder and CEO of Marquee TV, Simon Walker, was the BBC’s first head of on demand media, leading the development of BBC iPlayer. He commented on the partnership: ‘Marquee TV’s mission is to democratize access to the performing arts and its sheer scale makes Prime Video Channels a perfect partner.’

Launched in 2018, Marquee TV has been dubbed ‘Netflix for the arts’ with partnerships with organisations including the Teatro Real, Glyndebourne Festival, Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scala, the London Symphony Orchestra.

Since September 2021, the digital residency has showcased a wide range of LPO’s talent including new principal conductor Edward Gardner, artist-in-residence Julia Fischer and recently-appointed principal guest conductor Karina Canellakis. Walker said: ‘We have been working with the LPO since the very beginning, and it is a relationship we are incredibly proud to have grown and evolved over the years.’

Concerts from Marquee TV’s digital residency will be free for 48 hours and will feature soloists including Christiane Karg, Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Nils Mönkemeyer. After the 48-hour period recordings will be accessible only to Marquee TV subscribers.

Talking about the streaming service’s motivations following the pandemic, Walker said: ‘We have seen how the pandemic has changed the performing arts industry and we are committed to continually developing ways for people to experience culture, wherever they are.’
