British bass Brindley Sherratt and his family will this month hold a concert in aid of The Meath Epilepsy Charity. Compered by comedian and opera fan Chris Addison, Bringing the House Down will be presented on Sunday afternoon (3.00pm, 10 April).

Having been postponed for two years due to the Covid pandemic, the concert will feature performances from world-renowned opera stars who have donated their time to perform: Fleur Barron, Jennifer France, Elizabeth Llewellyn, Sally Mathews, Huw Montague Rendall, Rachel Nicholls, Alexandra Oomens, Mark Padmore CBE, Nicky Spence and Freddie De Tommaso.

Brindley Sherratt says: 'Every single performer I approached signed up immediately and we now have a host of the finest classical singers performing at one of the most incredible venues in the world, all for The Meath. We’re raising money for a charity that already does incredible work, but the funds raised here will enable new life enhancing activities and opportunities for the residents that would otherwise be unattainable.’

The event aims to raise funds for The Meath Epilepsy Charity, a residential care home based in Surrey for people with complex epilepsy, where Sherratt’s daughter Amy (pictured) has lived since 2016. Amy is 31 years old and has a rare metabolic disorder, learning difficulties and complex epilepsy. The Meath helps her to maintain independence, while ensuring her safety.

Amy Sherratt said: ‘Having so many seizures is hard, but I know I am safe, and my friends understand because they have problems too. I’m excited about this concert at Glyndebourne because I love the opera world and meeting Dad’s friends!’

Tickets are available at the Meath website where you can also find out more about The Meath Epilepsy Charity.
