Beyond Borders, founded by conductor Rebecca Miller, is a series of online discussions that delve into current and emerging issues in the classical music industry, with a focus on diversity.

The series has been designed for industry leaders and women conductors in particular.

Rebecca Miller explains: 'I'm passionate about teaching my conducting students that 'stick technique' is only a very small portion of 'the job'. The majority of the job is actually the people skills, the collaboration, the leadership, the big ideas, and of course, all the intense study of the music and its relevance to today.

'In order to lead, you must be able to offer – at the very least – knowledge, ideas, and context, and then hopefully you're also able to add a dollop of inspiration, trust and ability to empower others. Through the prism of conducting, Beyond Borders cultivates what is necessary to succeed in the ever-changing music world and beyond.'

Sessions will focus on topics including the challenges of being a woman leader in the industry, the soft skills needed by leaders in areas of community outreach, fundraising and so on, and gender and racial diversity in classical music.

All Beyond Borders sessions take place online, with series passes and individual session tickets available at beyondborders.org.uk from £10.
