The Yehudi Menuhin School has announced the launch of its first ever residential summer school. Running from 28 July to 2 August 2025, the programme is aimed at young musicians aged between 11 and 16 and will take place on the school’s campus in the surrey village of Cobham.

The new summer school will offer participants personalised tuition from Yehudi Menuhin School teaching staff, focusing on technique, interpretation, and performance skills as well as presenting opportunities for students to engage in ensemble playing, orchestral projects and choral sessions.

Robin Harskin, head of Yehudi Menuhin School, said: ‘We are excited to be hosting this summer course for the first time, bringing together young people with a passion for classical music for a fun and inspiring week. It will also provide an excellent opportunity for anyone wishing to get a taste of what it is like to be a full-time pupil at our school.’

Alongside classes in general musicianship, aural skills and harmony, and seminars on audition preparation, performance anxiety management and overall well-being, participants will have opportunities to attend performances by visiting artists and to perform themselves. Students will showcase their progress with solo, orchestral and choral performances in a final ensemble concert in the school's Menuhin Hall.

Applications are now open for both residential and non-residential places. The course welcomes young musicians who have achieved a minimum standard of Grade 5 (ABRSM or equivalent) on violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, classical guitar, or piano. As part of the application process, candidates will need to provide recordings of two contrasting pieces on their primary instrument.
