The festival says that safety is the top priority for next year's edition

The Verbier Festival has announced its aim to return to live events for its 2021 edition, which will run from 16 July to 1 August.

The festival is putting in place protocols and enhancements - in consultation with medical professionals - to ensure events can happen even in the event of continued social distancing measures.

Founder and director Martin Engstroem said: 'We were among the first major festivals in Switzerland to call off its 2020 edition, knowing that if we had gone ahead it would have put our family of audiences, artists and team members at risk. And while it’s clear we are not out of the woods yet, we are now optimistic that once the clouds part, we will once again come to together in Verbier for our 28th edition.'

While the full programme will be announced in January 2021, confirmed artists so far include Valery Gergiev, Evgeny Kissin, Mischa Maisky, Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Kian Soltani.
