Lockdown 3: Performances can be broadcast from behind closed doors, says culture secretary

Tuesday, January 5, 2021

Full guidance is yet to be published on the government's website.

The UK is entering its third national lockdown as Covid-19 cases continue to soar across the country.

But what does this mean for musicians?

While the official advice is yet to be updated, culture secretary Oliver Dowden tweeted last night that, 'You should work from home unless you can’t - exemptions include for training and rehearsal of performances, recording studios and film & TV production.'

We understand that this means that the broadcast of performances from behind closed doors (ie, without an audience, and with social distancing measures in place) can continue to go ahead.

The government's official advice for performing arts was last updated on 23 December, but we expect to be updated here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19/performing-arts
