Intermusica signs Elīna Garanča and Karel Mark Chichon

The Latvian mezzo-soprano and British conductor have signed with the agency  for worldwide general management excluding opera.

Latvian mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča and British conductor Karel Mark Chichon have signed with the classical music agency Intermusica for worldwide general management. Both partnerships will exclude opera.

Intermusica founder and chief executive, Stephen Lumsden, said: ‘We are thrilled to welcome Elīna Garanča and Karel Mark Chichon to the Intermusica family… Though joining us together, it is important to pay tribute to their extraordinary individual talents, and we look forward to managing and developing the next stage of their careers.’ 

Born in Riga, Garanča is particularly recognised for her portrayal of Bizet’s Carmen. Her appearance at the Metropolitan Opera described as ‘the finest Carmen in 25 years’ by the New York Times and the production was broadcast in more than 1,000 cinemas worldwide.

Garanča became an exclusive artist with Deutsche Grammophon in 2005. With albums Romantique and Meditation released with the label winning ECHO Klassik awards. In addition to these, Garanča has won numerous awards including 1999 winner of the Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition, 2020 OPUS-KLASSIK Singer of the Year, Musical America’s ‘Vocalist of the Year’ 2010, MIDEM's ‘Singer of the Year’ 2007, and a Grammy nomination.

Karel Mark Chichon OBE was born in London of Gibraltarian heritage. He has been chief conductor and artistic director of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, since the 2017/18 season and has previously held roles including chief conductor of the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken, chief conductor and artistic director of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and chief conductor of the Graz Symphony Orchestra.

Chichon made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 2016 conducting Madama Butterfly in a performance which was broadcast live to 2,000 cinemas worldwide. Chichon recently recorded two CDs for Deutsche Grammophon as well as recording the complete Dvořák symphonies with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie for Hänssler Classic.
