Six finalists have been chosen for the public final of this year's Bampton Classical Opera Young Singers’ Competition. Following the competition’s first round which was held last month in London, the final will be held in Oxford this Sunday.

The finalists are listed below

  • Jessica Cale - soprano
  • Frances Gregory - mezzo-soprano
  • Sophie Sparrow - soprano
  • Shafali Jalota - soprano
  • Dan D’Souza - baritone
  • Cassandra Wright - soprano

Each singer will present a programme of around 20 minutes to a panel of judges including tenor Bonaventura Bottone, Royal Academy of Music vocal teacher Jennifer Dakin, and accompanist and conductor Phillip Thomas, previously a vocal coach at English National Opera, and official accompanist to the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition.

Singers will be competing for a first prize of £2,000 or a second prize of £1,000, with a £600 Accompanists’ Prize also available.

The Bampton Classical Opera Young Singers’ Competition was launched in 2013 to celebrate the 20th birthday of Bampton Classical Opera. The company aims to nurture young talent, with alumni going on to work with national companies including The Royal Opera, English National Opera and Opera North.

You can book tickets for the competition’s public final at Oxford’s Holywell Music Room on 28 November (6pm) at the Brampton Classical Opera website.
