Bruce (Xiaoyu) Liu wins 2021 Chopin Piano Competition

The Canadian pianist competed in Wednesday's finals to win First Prize.

Canadian pianist Bruce (Xiaoyu) Liu was announced yesterday as the First Prize winner of the prestigious Chopin International Piano Competition.

The 2nd Prize was shared by Kyohei Sorita (Japan) and Alexander Gadjiev (Italy/Slovenia) who also received the Krystian Zimerman Prize for the best performance of a sonata. 3rd Prize was awarded to Martin Garcia Garcia (Spain) who also won the Warsaw Philharmonic Prize for the best performance of a concerto.

Jakub Kuszlik (Poland) won the The Polish Radio Prize for the best performance of mazurkas and the remaining competition finalists received an honorary distinction funded by the president of the Capital City of Warsaw.

From a total of 87 participants (from 17 countries) drawn from a record number of over 500 entries, 12 competitors were selected to perform one of two piano concertos, accompanied by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra.
