Up to £10,000 is available to professional orchestras looking to programme recent music into their repertoire

New music funding charity PRS Foundation has re-opened applications for its Resonate initiative, designed to encourage professional orchestras to programme UK music from the past 25 years. Support of up to £10,000 will be given to orchestras who will present contemporary UK repertoire with the Resonate brand.

Set up in 2016 in partnership between PRS Foundation, the Association of British Orchestras (ABO) and BBC Radio 3 the initiative aims to inspire performances, recordings and broadcasts of recent UK repertoire from the Resonate database of works commissioned by UK orchestras in recent years.

Joe Frankland, PRS Foundation CEO said: ‘Having repeat performances of new orchestral works is an important part of creating and establishing the classics of the future. We’re delighted to be re-opening our Resonate initiative. The refreshed Resonate database underlines the outstanding quality of UK composers’ works UK and we are looking forward to seeing which pieces are selected to be programmed.’

The Resonate database is made up of pieces created no longer than 25 years ago. However, pieces that would have been beyond 25 years old in 2020 and 2021 will remain available on the database for this year’s application process, due to the pandemic. Resonate supported pieces have gone on to be performed across the UK.

ABO chief executive, Mark Pemberton, said: ‘The ABO is delighted that Resonate has re-launched. The creation of the Resonate database, and the PRS Foundation’s grants programme, has helped forge a step-change in our members’ commitment to performing previously commissioned works.’

Since 2000 the PRS Foundation has given more than £41 million through direct grants to music creators and support for music organisations to support emerging talent. You can find out more about PRS foundation here.

Applications for Resonate grants can be made via the PRS Foundation website. The deadline to submit an application is 3 October 2022(6pm).
