JAM on the Marsh is launching a composition project, culminating in a commission and world premiere, for up-and-coming composers

JAM on the Marsh festival, held annually at Romney Marsh in Kent, is calling for submissions to its new composition project, which asks participants to write a new piece for organ and brass quintet.

Composers will be invited to JAM's Masterclass Series, which will be led by Francesca Massey (director of Music and organist at Rochester Cathedral), and Onyx Brass. They will also have access to a live Zoom Q&A with Massey and Onyx.

By Monday 1 June, composers will need to submit 50-bar sketches via JAM’s website, written for organ or brass quintet. Diverse genres are encouraged.

Of the submissions, six sketches will be workshopped with Massey, Onyx Brass, and Paul Mealor.

In the autumn, all six works will be performed at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street (London) by Francesca Massey and Onyx Brass. The concert will be professionally recorded. One composer will be awarded a £500 commission for performance at JAM’s season launch concert at St Bride’s in March 2022.
