The Los Angeles Master Chorale has been approved for a $45,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support the choir’s United We Sing concert, led by guest conductor Rollo Dilworth in May this year.

The Chorale, led by artistic director Grant Gershon, is one of the leading professional choirs in the US. Founded by American conductor Roger Wagner in 1964, it is a resident company of The Music Centre and choir-in-residence at Walt Disney Concert Hall where it frequently performs with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Jean Davidson, the choir’s president and CEO said: ‘We are incredibly grateful to the NEA for their continued support… United We Sing is a special program that upholds the Master Chorale’s commitment to supporting a multiplicity of voices through communal and celebratory singing.’

The choir has received three ASCAP/Chorus America Awards for Adventurous Programming and the Chorus America Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence. It also presents education programs in schools such as Voices Within, encouraging students to write and perform their own songs.

The Los Angeles Master Chorale’s project is among over 1,000 projects across America selected to receive this first round of 2022 funding for Grants for Arts Projects totalling almost $29 million.

NEA acting chair Ann Eilers said: ‘The Los Angeles Master Chorale in Los Angeles is among the arts organizations nationwide that are using the arts as a source of strength, a path to well-being, and providing access and opportunity for people to connect and find joy through the arts.’

The NEA is an independent federal agency established by Congress in 1965 with the aim of providing funding and support for arts organisations and promoting equal access to the arts across America.
