Applications will close tomorrow, Friday 14 January.

Applications for Southbank Sinfonia’s annual fellowship will close tomorrow (14 January). From these applications 33 graduate musicians will be chosen to embark on the Sinfonia’s fellowship and form an orchestra.

Successful candidates will gain experience and skills in orchestral playing and collaboration, engaging with a wide range of modern and historic repertoire. Applications do not require payment; each fellowship position is free and successful candidates will also receive a bursary.

Founded in 2002 by music director Simon Over, Southbank Sinfonia aims to help graduate musicians begin their professional careers. It has generated over £5m for young musicians since its inception, distributed through the bursaries granted to all those on the fellowship and full fees provided in consequent opportunities.

Last April the Sinfonia moved its headquarters to St John’s Smith Square, following a merger between the two organisations to create a single charity delivering the annual fellowship as well as a programme of workshops, projects and concerts designed to engage communities.

At the time, Richard Heason, director at St John's Smith Square said: 'We’re incredibly excited to be welcoming 33 wonderfully talented young musicians to become the driving force behind the creative programme at St John’s Smith Square…. Placing emerging talent at the heart of the organisation guarantees the future of our musical heritage.'

The orchestra has recently collaborated with iTunes, Sadler’s Wells and the RSC, as well as putting on a production of Amadeus at the National Theatre in 2018.
